5-star DE recruit Marlon Davidson ‘50/50’ on leaving state of Alabama

The Alabama defensive end prospect doesn’t have any leaders to talk about yet, and will take his time deciding.

Standing 6’4 and weighing in at 278 pounds, Montgomery (Ala.) Carver defensive end Marlon Davidson is enormous. He’s a five-star prospect, one of the top 30 overall players in the country and top five among both defensive ends and players from Alabama, according to the 247 Composite rankings. He didn’t work out at the Nike Opening Regional in Atlanta, but SB Nation caught up with him to talk about how his recruitment is progressing.

No favorites yet

Like his high school teammate Lyndell “Mack” Wilson, the discussion with Davidson focuses on his odds of leaving Alabama. “50/50,” Davidson said, adding that while he would actually like to leave Alabama for school, it would take something special to leave the state and go somewhere other than Alabama or Auburn. He declined to list any teams as favorites right now, though. As for out of state schools, Michigan was the most recent school to offer him, joining other recent offers from Florida State, TCU, and Oregon, among others.

Davidson says he has a good relationship with Kirby Smart, his lead recruiter at Alabama. He went to Tuscaloosa in February, and would like to come back again in the spring.

As for what he’s looking for most in a school, Davidson said the education since he would like to open his own marketing business one day.

Visits and timeline

Davidson said he doesn’t have a date in mind, but will make his decision late in the process towards National Signing Day. He is planning on taking all five of his visits beforehand. He’s also planning on doing a hat ceremony, so get ready for that.
