4-star QB recruit Devon Modster commits to Arizona

— devon modster (@DModster) April 15, 2015 Four-star quarterback Devon Modster is set to make his school commitment on Wednesday, and it’s down to UCLA, Arizona and Boise State. The Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Tesoro star made the announcement on Twitter on Monday that he’d be announcing Wednesday afternoon at 2:22 p.m..
Standing 6’1 and weighing in at 215 pounds, Modster has put together an offer list featuring a number of big schools mostly on the West Coast. Aside from the three previously mentioned finalists, he holds offers from Arizona State, Cal, Utah, Colorado State, UNLV and Kansas.
Modster is rated as a four-star prospect, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, and is rated as a top-10 pro-style quarterback prospect. He would be an excellent addition to any of the three schools’ classes none of which have added a quarterback to this point. Seven of the top 10 pro-style quarterback prospects in the 2016 recruiting class have already committed, including KJ Costello, who plays across town from Modster at Santa Margarita Catholic.
Here are some of Modster’s highlights from his junior season at Tesoro.
If Modster does go with UCLA, he’d be coming to campus a year after 2015 five-star quarterback Josh Rosen. Head coach Jim Mora said they won’t publicly name a starter until their opening game, but many expect Rosen to get the nod. If playing time as an underclassman is a big factor for Modster, UCLA may not be the ideal scenario.
If immediate playing time is more of factor for Modster, Arizona and Boise State could be better options. The Wildcats have Anu Solomon, who just completed his true freshman season in 2014, so he would be entering his junior year by the time Modster got to Tucson. Boise is replacing the outgoing Grant Hedrick this year, so there's a chance there won't be a firmly entrenched starter for the Broncos in 2016.
