Clemson commit Hunter Johnson is the top quarterback in the class of 2017, and his Indiana high school has a pregame routine that’s going to sound very similar to fans in Death Valley.

“We do a team prayer, and we have a bit of a hill, and we run down the hill and touch the rock, kind of like Clemson,” the five-star 2017 quarterback told SB Nation at The Opening’s Elite 11 finals this week.
Of course, Johnson’s commitment to Clemson didn’t come from similarities in how they enter the field. His faith is a big part of why he committed to the Tigers in December.
“I went to a Christian school for seven years, that’s definitely a big part for me and something special that I hadn’t seen at a lot of other places,” he said.
He’s not the only quarterback whose faith played a large role in his recruitment. Alabama commit Tua Tagovailoa said a shared belief in God helped draw him to the Tide.
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney wins a lot of hearts with his reputation as a “real guy,” and that helped him get Johnson.
”I was calling Coach Swinney one time and I asked him what he was doing and he was like, “I’m in the middle of Publix, getting a sandwich,” because that’s just how he is. [He’s a] real guy and he does what he wants.”
