Five-star defensive end/outside linebacker Brenton Cox committed to the Georgia Bulldogs on Wednesday. The 6’5, 250-pound pass rusher will look to make an immediate impact for an SEC program known for developing talent along its front seven.
Star defensive end recruit Brenton Cox signing with Georgia
The five-star pass rusher will be an immediate boost for the Dawgs.

The Dawgs’ gain comes at Ohio State’s expense. Cox decommitted from the Buckeyes back on Dec. 6, making him a hot commodity once more on the recruiting trail.
The Stockbridge, Ga. recruit took advantage of 2017’s early signing period window. The dynamic edge rusher chose Georgia over an offer list that reads like a who’s who of NCAA gridiron royalty. Cox had offers from every participant in this year’s College Football Playoff except for Oklahoma, and entertained overtures from LSU, Miami, Oregon, and Florida as well.
In the end, head coach Kirby Smart’s pitch proved too much for those other programs to match.
What’s special about Brenton Cox?
Cox is the kind of player who makes offensive coordinators nervous. At 6’5 and 250 pounds, he already looks the part of an elite pass rusher and can fill in at either defensive end or outside linebacker. While he doesn’t have mind-blowing straight line speed, his quick feet and solid lateral movement allow him to put offensive tackles on roller skates and crash into the backfield.
He has the strength to grab and shed blocks at the point of contact, swatting away opponents’ arms or ducking under them to collapse the pocket. He’s a versatile and productive tackler who wraps up well and finishes plays. The only question is how he’ll adapt to bigger, stronger, and more physical blockers in the SEC.
