Five-star offensive tackle Jackson Carman, one of the most touted offensive line recruits in college football history, will play for Clemson, he announced on Wednesday morning.
Jackson Carman, 2018’s top OT recruit, signs with Clemson
Carman is technically sound and as talented as they come.

Carman played his high school ball in Fairfield, Ohio, and the Buckeyes made him every bit the top target you’d expect, but the in-state Clemson ended up walking away the winner for the offensive tackle.
Clemson’s had come on strong. The Tigers are the defending national champions, and they got there via a blowout win against Ohio State in last season’s Fiesta Bowl Playoff semifinal. Carman named the Tigers his leader last spring and has spoken glowingly about them. In an interview in April, Clemson seemed to be even with Ohio State, and maybe a small notch ahead. (These things can change quickly.)
Clemson recruited him hard.
Carman said he felt comfortable at Clemson, and he enjoyed the Tigers’ bonkers new facility that includes an indoor slide and a miniature golf course. He tried out both.
“Clemson, their facilities are crazy,” he told SB Nation. “It’s an amazing place down there, and I like the people there — the recruits, the players. I just really feel at home there almost, you know?”
Carman’s home-state school has its own benefits, though he didn’t mention the Buckeyes’ geography as one when I asked.
“I have a good relationship with the coaching staff, nice environment up there,” Carman said. “Campus is beautiful, and they pump out NFL offensive linemen year after year.”
Carman was dominant on the camp circuit heading into his senior year.
It’s not difficult to see why Carman’s so touted. He’s strong and smooth, with athleticism that’s unnatural on a player with a filled-out, 6’6 frame.
Carman played in a spread system at Fairfield High School.
“I like to block in space, because I like moving around,” he said.
I had asked for Carman’s favorite type of block to put on an opponent.
“Probably either pulling or releasing on a linebacker,” he said. “I wouldn’t say I have a favorite type, but wherever I’m crushing someone is nice.”
