Florida State vs. Miami: Stephen Morris might be out for Hurricanes

The Hurricanes may have to turn to their backup quarterback this weekend.

Miami Hurricanes quarterback Stephen Morris might miss this week's game against Florida State because of an ankle sprain, coach Al Golden said Sunday. Morris suffered the injury late in the fourth quarter of the Hurricanes' 18-14 loss to North Carolina on Saturday. He was unable to return to that game and was replaced by sophomore Ryan Williams.

X-rays of Morris’ ankle showed no fracture, and he did not suffer a high-ankle sprain, which tends to come with a longer recovery time. Golden is prepared to move on without Morris and said that as of Sunday the plan is to start Williams under center against the Seminoles.

For the season, Morris is 154-for-268 for 1,991 yards, nine touchdowns and six interceptions. He leads the ACC in passing yardage but ranks ninth in passer rating. Williams, who is a sophomore, has thrown just 15 passes in 2012. He was 9-for-13 for 80 yards against the Tar Heels.
