A.J. McCarron injury: Alabama QB’s mother denies meniscus rumors

A.J. McCarron's mother took to Twitter Tuesday afternoon to say that the rumors that the Alabama quarterback tore his meniscus in Saturday's game against Missouri are false.

McCarron’s mother, Dee Dee Bonner, tweeted several times that the reports are incorrect. First, she responded to the initial Russ Mitchell tweet reporting that he had three sources confirming the quarterback had torn his meniscus

Bonner then chastised reporters on the case for not only getting the facts wrong, but also spelling her son’s name incorrectly - it’s A.J., not AJ. She finished by claiming the rumors were “100% false”.

The junior quarterback was able to play after hurting his knee Saturday, but he was reported as having the tear despite full participation in practice Monday.

McCarron has been an important factor in the success of college football’s best team thus far, tossing 12 touchdowns and no interceptions while completing 67.4 percent of his passes. Some might downplay his importance thanks to the Crimson Tide’s tremendous running game and defense, but his backup, redshirt freshman Philip Ely, might not be ready for the starting spot.
