No one told Texas A&M they joined the Southeastern Conference for the 2012 season. The No. 20 Aggies (5-1, 2-1) are averaging a very un-SEC like 47 points per game and enter their Saturday clash with No. 6 LSU coming off a 59-57 victory over Louisiana Tech. Freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel accounted for 576 total yards in the La. Tech game, a SEC record, and he ran for three touchdowns and threw for three more.

LSU (6-1, 2-1) squeezed out a win at home last Saturday over then-no. 3 South Carolina. The Tigers were forced to kick field goals on four drives that broached the Gamecocks’ 15-yard line. LSU rushed for 258 yards on 53 carries, including 124 yards and two scores from freshman Jeremy Hill, and outgained USC 406-211 while holding onto the ball for over 36 minutes of game time.

LSU will want to hold onto the ball with their ground game to keep Manziel on the sidelines. When Texas A&M does have the ball, Manziel will have to contend with a Tigers defense that trails only Alabama in passing yards allowed per game.

Game time, TV channel: 12 p.m. ET, ESPN

Point spread: LSU is favored by a field goal on most books. SBNation’s Bud Elliott takes A&M at +4.
