Tommy Rees to start at QB for Notre Dame vs. BYU

Rees gets the nod despite Everett Golson being cleared of concussion symptoms earlier this week. Rees has appeared four times this season, leading the Irish to wins in each game.

Tommy Rees will get the start at quarterback for Notre Dame as the Fighting Irish host BYU on Saturday. Chicago Tribune reporter Brian Hamilton tweeted the news Saturday.

Rees entered the 2012 season as the starter, but served a one-game suspension handed down by head coach Brian Kelly for a conviction on charges of resisting arrest and underage consumption of alcohol. Notre Dame defeated Navy 50-10 in that game, played in Dublin, Ireland. Sophomore Everett Golson has been the starter, submitting to Rees after injuries, most notably a concussion suffered in their win over Stanford Oct. 13.

Rees has come off the bench four times, leading the Irish to wins over Purdue, Michigan State and Michigan, and started in their win over Miami. Golson was cleared to play earlier this week, but Kelly is going with Rees.

Rees is 17-for-25 with 218 yards and a touchdown in 2012, and 32 touchdowns in his career.

Notre Dame, ranked No. 5 in the latest BCS standings, is a 14-point favorite at home over the Cougars.
