San Jose State vs. UTSA 2012 results: Spartans cruise to easy 52-24 victory

San Jose State went on the road and took down UTSA on Saturday.

Evan Habeeb-US PRESSWIRE

The San Jose State Spartans took control early and cruised to an easy 52-24 victory over the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners on Saturday afternoon. SJSU jumped on top 28-0 in the first quarter, and UTSA could not get anycloser than three touchdowns the rest of the way.

Six turnovers doomed the Roadrunners as the Spartans were able to capitalize time and time again, especially while building an early lead. In terms of total yardage, the game was close. UTSA actually out-gained SJSU, 412-405.

The two teams combined for a whopping eight fumbles, all of which were lost. The Roadrunners added a late-game interception to bring the total number of turnovers to nine.

SJSU led 31-0 before UTSA was able to get on the board in the second quarter on a 69-yard screen pass from Ryan Polite to Evans Okotcha. The excitement for the Roadrunners was short-lived, as SJSU's Tyler Ervin returned the ensuing kick 92 yards for a score.

Both teams are now 5-2 overall and 1-1 in WAC play. The win does not count towards bowl eligibility for the Spartans, as UTSA is an FBS transitional member.

Box Score Hero: SJSU quarterback David Fales had an easy day, completing 17 of 26 passes for 279 yards and three touchdowns.

Rankings Ramifications: Neither team is close to being ranked, and won’t be this coming week.

But Did They Cover? The Spartans had little trouble covering, as they were favored by 12 1/2.
