UNLV vs. Boise State 2012 results: Broncos get easy win over Rebels, 32-7

Boise State notched another win on Saturday, this time blowing out UNLV.

The Boise State Broncos had little trouble with the lowly UNLV Rebels on Saturday, getting an easy 32-7 victory. BSU's defense didn't allow a point, as the Rebels' only score came on a fourth-quarter fumble return.

Broncos quarterback Joe Southwick had an accurate day, completing 22/29 for 243 yards. He did not get a touchdown pass, as all of Boise State's offensive scores came on the ground. D.J. Harper had two of those rushing touchdowns. He ran for 59 yards on 12 carries.

The Rebels struggled to move the ball for most of the day, as UNLV finished with just 210 yards on 73 offensive snaps. The Broncos also forced four turnovers. One of those takeaways came late in the fourth quarter on an interception. UNLV quarterback Nick Sherry took a hard hit on the play, and was knocked to the turf. He walked off the field under his own power, but appeared to suffer an injury to the head or neck area.

The Broncos move to 6-1 on the year, while the Rebels drop to 1-7.

Box Score Hero: BSU cornerback Jerrell Gavins scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery and had an interception.

Rankings Ramifications: The Broncos come in to the game at No. 22, but won’t rise unless some teams lose in front, as UNLV is among the worst teams in the country. If BSU can win out, they have a good shot to finish in the top 16 of the BCS standings and give themselves a chance at a BCS berth.

But Did They Cover? Boise State looked poised to beat the 28-point spread, but the late fumble return for a TD by UNLV gave the Rebels a backdoor cover.

Next Week’s Schedule: The Broncos travel to Wyoming next Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. ET start. The Rebels visit San Diego State and play at 8 p.m.
