Georgia Bulldogs safety Shawn Williams said Monday night that his team's defense has been playing "too soft" lately, according to the Macon Telegraph.

“We’ve gotta stop playing soft. We’re playing too soft defensively,” Williams said. “That goes for D-line, linebackers, corners, safeties. I don’t know, we’re not playing with the same attitude we played with last year. I don’t know what it is.”
Williams' comments came two days after Georgia beat Kentucky, 29-24. The Bulldogs rebounded from a 35-7 loss to South Carolina the previous week. The senior also said the team should play linebackers Alec Ogletree and Amarlo Herrera more.
“Me personally, if I was the coaches, I can’t tell them what to do, but I’d have Amarlo Herrera in the game more. I wouldn’t take him out. I’d leave him and Ogletree in the game,” Williams said. “That’s what I want. Me as a player, I want to see Amarlo in the game, Amarlo and Ogletree in the game at linebacker. I don’t want to see anybody else in the game at linebacker. ...”
Georgia’s defense surrendered 329 total yards to Kentucky on Saturday. The Wildcats picked up just 123 yards passing, but racked up 206 rushing yards. Kentucky’s Jonathan George rushed for 87 yards on 12 carries, which averages to 7.3 yards per carry.
Georgia’s D is allowing 24 points per game on average this season despite returning almost every starter from a Top 5 defense. The Bulldogs are allowing nearly 200 passing yards per game and 167 rushing yards.
With No. 3 Florida on the docket for Saturday, Williams said he he hopes his interview “will get back to (his teammates) and piss them off.”
