Marcus Lattimore injury update: Steve Spurrier ‘optimistic’ of running back’s recovery

South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier is optimistic that running back Marcus Lattimore will return to the field eventually after suffering a gruesome knee injury on Saturday.

South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier believes that running back Marcus Lattimore could eventually return to the playing field after suffering a gruesome knee injury on Saturday against the Tennessee Volunteers, as he tells Josh Kendall of The State.

“We are optimistic (Lattimore’s) football days are still ahead of him. There is history of guys coming back from this,” Spurrier said.

It’s not entirely clear what injuries Lattimore’s leg has suffered, but it was obvious from video replays that the junior had suffered something major.

Even without the specific public diagnosis at this point, Spurrier was able to add that, “Dr. Guy says there could be a chance but there could be a chance it could be two years down the road.”

Throughout this season, Lattimore has dealt with a variety of injuries that prevented him from playing at his peak level, but he was looking good on Saturday against Tennessee before the injury. Over 11 carries, Lattimore ran for 65 yards and a touchdown, plus he caught two passes for eight yards.
