Mississippi State (7-2, 3-2) comes into the game ranked 21st in the country, with its only losses coming to the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide and the Texas A&M Aggies, both in the past two weeks. The Bulldogs have been largely successful behind a defense that ranks 23rd in the country in points allowed, averaging just 19.7 points per game.
LSU (7-2, 3-2) is also looking to rebound off of a tough defeat against the Crimson Tide, who the Tigers lost to last week on a T.J. Yeldon score in the final moments. The Tigers are no longer in the race for a national championship bid, but still have an opportunity to put together a fine season.
As usual, LSU relies on its defense. The Tigers rank 10th in the nation in points allowed (15.3) and on offense, rely completely on their rushing attack that gains over 200 yards per contest.
