Maryland vs. Clemson 2012 final score: Defense propels Tigers to 45-10 win

Clemson’s defense was so good it didn’t matter that the offense had three turnovers. Clemson still wins, 45-10.

The No. 13 Clemson Tigers (9-1) had more than 400 yards of total offense and the defense held the Maryland Terrapins (4-6) to 180 total yards in a 45-10 Clemson win Saturday.

The Tigers got off to a fast start offensively. Quarterback Tajh Boyd found Adam Humphries for a 13-yard touchdown for the game's first score. On Maryland's next drive, less than a minute later, Clemson's Corey Crawford recovered a fumble and returned it 16 yards for a touchdown. Boyd then connected with DeAndre Hopkins and Brandon Ford for touchdowns on the team's next two drives.

Maryland's lone touchdown came in the second quarter when Shawn Petty threw a touchdown pass to Devonte Campbell for 17 yards.

Clemson scored two more touchdowns in the game, a rushing touchdown by Andre Ellington in the second quarter and a touchdown pass from backup quarterback Cole Stoudt to Stanton Seckinger in the fourth quarter

Ellington and Roderick McDowell combined for 105 yards on 24 carries for Clemson. Ross had 16 carries for 100 yards for Maryland.

Box Score Hero: Boyd was 18 for 26 for 261 yards and three touchdowns. He threw all three of those touchdown passes in the first 16 minutes of the game, helping Clemson put the game out of reach early.
