The Aggies put up 20 points in the first quarter to take the early advantage on Alabama. Christine Michael rushed it in twice on 1-yard scampers, and Johnny Manziel hit Ryan Swope for a 10-yard scamper. A&M piled up more than 200 yards of offense, taking advantage of an Alabama turnover and also conducting two methodical drives.

Alabama responded in the second quarter with two big drives of 67 and 68 yards, and T.J. Yeldon and Eddie Lacy each punched it in at the goal-line to make it 20-14 at halftime. Alabama would drive into A&M territory in the third quarter, but couldn't punch it in. Jeremy Shelley settled for a 28-yard field goal to cut the A&M lead to 20-17.

A&M responded with two scoring drives in the fourth quarter, with Manziel finding Malcome Kennedy for a 24-yard strike to make it 29-17. A.J. McCarron responded with a 54-yard touchdown throw to Amari Cooper to keep Alabama in it, then found Kenny Bell to set up Alabama with first-and-goal and a chance to win. But McCarron's potential game-winning throw was intercepted at the goal line, and A&M held on for the upset.
