UCF vs. Tulsa final score: Golden Hurricane hang on for 23-21 win

The Golden Hurricane outlasted the Knights at home, 23-21, powered by a 13-point outburst in five minutes in the third quarter.

Reese Strickland-US PRESSWIRE

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane hung on to beat the Central Florida Knights, 23-21, on Saturday. Tulsa used a-13 point outburst in five minutes in the third quarter to build a 23-14 lead, and had to withstand a UCF comeback attempt that put the game in doubt.

Tulsa actually jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, but UCF scored two touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 14-10 lead into halftime. However, the third quarter belonged to Keyarris Garrett, who caught two touchdown passes from Cody Green – his second and third on the day – to put the Golden Hurricane in the lead for good. Latavius Murray scored in the fourth quarter to make it close, though, but UCF was never able to complete the comeback.

Green was very good for Tulsa, going 21-of-34 for 252 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Trey Watts had 122 yards on the ground to lead the team, but Garrett was the star of the day for Tulsa.

Blake Bortles was only 13-of-31 for 169 yards and a touchdown for UCF. Murray led the team with 60 rushing yards and a touchdown, and Breshad Perriman caught a touchdown pass.

Box Score Hero: It has to be Keyarris Garrett. He had 130 yards and three touchdowns on seven passes, and represented a huge portion of Tulsa’s offensive production.

Rankings Ramifications: Neither of these teams were ranked entering the game, but at 9-2, Tulsa has a chance of cracking into the rankings.

But Did They Cover? Tulsa entered the game as one-point favorites, so they just barely covered the spread.

Next Week’s Schedule:

Tulsa: 11/24, at SMU

UCF: 11/24, vs. UAB
