USF vs. Miami final score: Hurricanes blow out Bulls, 40-9

The Hurricanes took a while to get rolling, but eventually made short work of the Bulls, winning going away by a score of 40-9.

Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

The Miami Hurricanes had no trouble dispatching the South Florida Bulls on Saturday, doing so to the tune of a 40-9 final. Stephen Morris shot the USF defense full of holes before being pulled in the fourth quarter, and three Miami receivers totaled more than 100 receiving yards.

The game actually started rather slowly, as Miami was repeatedly held to field goals in the first half. Morris connected with Kendal Thompkins to make it a 16-0 game in the second quarter, and it was 16-3 at halftime. The Hurricanes came out of halftime with a fury, though, and scored three touchdowns over the next 16 minutes to completely put the game away.

Herb Waters scored on an 87-yard touchdown pass from Morris, and Clive Walford had a 67-yard touchdown reception. Duke Johnson scored on a rushing touchdown, and had 66 yards on the day. Walford, Waters and Phillip Dorsett each had more than 100 receiving yards for the Canes.

The day was a complete disaster for the Bulls, who may be nearing the end of the Skip Holtz era in Tampa. Holtz burned the redshirt of quarterback Bobby Eveld, and disastrously bungled the clock situation right before halftime. Demetris Murray did have more than 100 rushing yards for the Bulls, in essentially the only bright spot of the day for them.

Miami is now bowl eligible as a result of the win, but they may self-impose a bowl ban to help lighten potential sanctions looming as a result of the Nevin Shapiro scandal.

Box Score Hero: Stephen Morris was a monster for Miami, going 21-32 for 413 yards and three touchdowns before being pulled.

Rankings Ramifications: Neither team was ranked entering the game, and neither team will be after.

But Did They Cover? The Hurricanes were 6.5-point favorites entering the game, so they covered the spread easily.
