Ray Graham among 3 Pitt football players charged with assault

Three Pittsburgh football players, including team leaders Ray Graham and Devin Street, were charged with assault Thursday, following an alleged Oct. 21 incident.

Three Pittsburgh Panthers football players were charged with simple assault and conspiracy Thursday night, according to a report from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Running back Ray Graham, wide receiver Devin Street and defensive back Lafayette Pitts were charged Thursday following an October incident. Police said the three players surrounded a man and one player punched the man in the head. The players were not arrested on Thursday, but will receive summonses by mail.

Graham leads the team in yards from scrimmage (866 yards), Street is its leading receiver (695 yards) and Pitts is second among all Pitt freshmen in tackles (21). The Panthers play at No. 3 Notre Dame on Saturday.

The alleged incident occurred Oct. 21. A man told police he had just been assaulted and did not want to file a report but instead wanted officers to stop the man who punched him. The man said he was walking when Graham stopped and confronted him. Street and Pitts then surrounded the man with Street punching him in the head.

The players will have a preliminary hearing Jan. 9. According to the Post-Gazette, a Pitt spokesman could not be reached Thursday night.
