Jerry Kill will not return to sideline vs. Michigan State

Gophers head coach Jerry Kill will not return to the sideline for Minnesota’s game against Michigan State, after remaining in the locker room when the team went out for the second half.

Minnesota Golden Gophers head football coach Jerry Kill left Saturday's game against the Michigan State Spartans, and the University is reporting, via Twitter, that Kill is unlikely to return to the sidelines during the game. The Tweet says there will be more information provided when available.

Kill did not return to the sidelines following halftime, after being there for the entirety of the first half. Michigan State held a 13-7 lead heading into the second half, and has since increased the lead to 27-10 with about half a quarter remaining in the game.

It’s unclear as to the reason for Kill’s absence, though he has missed time in the past for health reasons. Kill had a seizure after a 21-13 loss to Northwestern on Oct. 13, and admitted himself to a hospital following his post-game speech. Kill also suffered a seizure on the sidelines during a game against New Mexico State a season ago.

Still, there is no official word or even heavy speculation that Kill’s absence on the sidelines has any relation to his health. According to the Big Ten Network, Kill addressed the team as normal at halftime and was not acting abnormally. The team doctor and trainer are both on the sidelines and the team’s defensive backs coach is serving as head coach in the interim.
