Texas vs. Kansas State: David Ash injury means Case McCoy starting

Case McCoy looks likely to get yet another shot to start for the Longhorns.

John Rieger-US PRESSWIRE

According to a tweet from the Big 12, Texas Longhorns coach Mack Brown has announced that David Ash will be questionable for the Longhorns next game with a ribs injury and that Case McCoy will start at quarterback against the Kansas St. Wildcats.

It isn’t certain when exactly the ribs injury occurred, according to Burnt Orange Nation. But Ash didn’t get medical attention until late in the game.

Ash has 2,458 passing yards with 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season but struggled against TCU with two interceptions on Nov. 22.

McCoy is no stranger to the field this year as he’s already amassed 408 yards on 28 completions with four touchdowns and one interception this season. Ash and McCoy have both been unable to consistently announce themselves as the true quarterback and leader of the Longhorns. In Ash’s 17 games as starter, he’s been pulled in 23.5-percent of those games due to his performance.

McCoy has shown flashes. But it is obvious he still hasn’t done enough to supplant Ash as the starter on the team. No one ever wishes an injury on someone, but this latest setback for Ash is yet another opportunity for McCoy to seize the reins of this team and never let go.
