Sonny Dykes to interview with N.C. State, according to report

After leading Louisiana Tech to a 9-3 season, Sonny Dykes will reportedly interview for the vacant N.C. State head coaching job.

After firing coach Tim O'Brien on Sunday, the North Carolina State Wolfpack will interview current Louisiana Tech Bulldogs coach Sonny Dykes for the recently vacant job Wednesday, according to a report.

According to the News Star, Dykes, who led the Bulldogs to a 9-3 record in 2012, will get a shot at the head coaching gig at NC State, which just completed a 7-5 record with its victory over the Boston College Eagles last weekend. The next day, O'Brien was out of the job with the Wolfpack.

Louisiana Tech burst onto the scene in 2012 after making a run at a possible BCS berth. Two losses to close out the season, however, ended those hopes, but the Bulldogs did win five consecutive games to open the season and took the Texas A&M Aggies to the wire, dropping their meeting with Johnny Manziel, 59-57, in a rescheduled meeting between the schools.

Dykes has been the head coach at Louisiana Tech since 2010, and was offensive coordinator with the Arizona Wildcats and Texas Tech Red Raiders previously. He has also coached with the Kentucky Wildcats as a wide receivers and special teams coach.
