Teddy Bridgewater injury: Louisville QB did not start vs. Rutgers

Louisville sophomore Teddy Bridgewater is expected to play, but did not open Thursday’s game against Rutgers as the Cardinals’ starting quarterback.

Dealing with injuries to both his wrist and ankle, Louisville Cardinals sophomore quarterback Teddy Bridgewater did not open Thursday night's Big East Championship game as his team's starter.

Bridgewater broke his non-throwing wrist last Saturday in a loss to Connecticut, and was questionable to play throughout the week due to continuing to have trouble taking snaps. While the Cardinals announced their intention to only feature their 6'3, 218-pound signal-caller in shotgun formations against the Scarlet Knights, head coach Charlie Strong obviously felt that backup Will Stein was the better choice to begin Thursday's pivotal Big East title game under center.

Drastically improved as a decision maker over his freshman season, Bridgewater has already racked up 3,189 passing yards and 24 total touchdowns this year for a Louisville team with just two losses on its record. Although he will not open the evening as the Cardinals’ No. 1 quarterback on the depth chart, it’s difficult to imagine Bridgewater won’t still play a significant role in the passing game with a conference championship up for grabs.
