Oklahoma State, FSU in talks to play 2014 game at Cowboys Stadium

Cowboys and Seminoles may be set to open the season at Jerry’s World.

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

The Oklahoma State Cowboys and Florida State Seminoles are in negotiations to play each other at Cowboys Stadium in 2014, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Jeremy Fowler. The negotiations are ongoing, and no final agreement has been reached.

The proposed neutral site game is surprising for both programs. Florida State is notorious for scheduling soft in non-conference play, due in large part to the program’s built-in non-conference clash with rival Florida. Oklahoma State, on the other hand, plays nine conference games in the Big 12 and has precious little schedule space for non-conference games. Both teams already have contracts in place to play non-BCS opponents in 2014, with Florida State welcoming The Citadel to Doak Campbell Stadium on September 13, and Oklahoma State set to play Texas-San Antonio on the same date.

However, Oklahoma State has shown an interest in playing neutral-site non-conference games, especially when they cater to the school’s Texas alumni fan base. The Cowboys have already agreed to play Mississippi State at Houston’s Reliant Stadium to open the 2013 season.

The newly-built Cowboys Stadium has become a popular venue for season-opening games, with Alabama facing Michigan at the stadium to open the 2012 season.
