Tee Martin to Tennessee? Vols great reportedly meeting Butch Jones

Former Tennessee quarterback Tee Martin is reportedly meeting with new Volunteers coach Butch Jones on Monday to discuss a coaching position at the school.

New Tennessee Volunteers coach Butch Jones is working to put together his staff, and according to Pete Roussel of CoachingSearch.com, USC wide receivers coach and former Tennessee quarterback Tee Martin is in Knoxville on Monday to meet with Jones:

The former Vols star quarterback has been a frequent subject of questions for Jones:

Asked specifically about Martin, Jones said he’s still in the investigative stages of finding good fits.

“Obviously,” Jones said, “he’s a great coach. We all understand what he’s meant to this football program. Obviously he would be an individual we reach out to, but we’re going to reach out to a lot of individuals.”

Martin began his coaching career in 2009 at New Mexico as a quarterbacks coach. He then moved on to Kentucky for two years as a receivers coach before joining the USC staff in the same capacity in 2012.

Getting Martin to join the staff would win a huge portion of the fan base for Jones, who was hired as the Tennessee head coach on Friday. Martin has strong ties in the state and across the SEC landscape, which would be invaluable for recruiting purposes as the Volunteers look to get back to national relevance.

Martin starred at Tennessee after Peyton Manning left the school, leading the Volunteers to a national championship in 1998 as a junior. In that season, Martin also broke an NCAA record for consecutive completions. The following year, Martin led the Vols to their second straight BCS game.
