Mel Tucker on Wisconsin coach rumors: Not interested ‘at this time’

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator and former Wisconsin Badgers football player Mel Tucker says he’s not interested in the Wisconsin head coaching job right now.

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Mel Tucker has told Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez that he is not interested in their vacant head coaching position at the moment, according to Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union.

Tucker attended the University of Wisconsin and played defensive back, graduating in 1995. He began his coaching career in the college ranks as the defensive backs coach at Miami (OH) in 1999 before moving to LSU, then Ohio State where he was the co-defensive coordinator in 2004. Following that season, Tucker made the jump to the NFL and was the defensive backs coach of the Cleveland Browns until 2008, when he was named defensive coordinator. However, he was replaced following the termination of head coach Romeo Crennel. He was hired by the Jacksonville Jaguars the following season.

Tucker was interim head coach for Jacksonville at the end of the 2011 season following the firing of Jack Del Rio, and was 2-3 in the Jaguars final five games.

The Wisconsin Badgers' head coaching job became available after Bret Bielema left the school to become the head coach at the University of Arkansas.
