Oklahoma State Cowboys offensive coordinator Todd Monken is the new head coach at Southern Mississippi, according to a report in the Oklahoman. Monken is expected to begin working for the Golden Eagles immediately and will not coach the Cowboys in their bowl game.

Monken is inheriting a USM program that went 0-12 in 2012, often in blowout fashion. That 0-12 season came on the heels of a Conference USA championship season in 2011, and it was bad enough to get coach Ellis Johnson fired after just one year on the job.
Monken spent the last two seasons coordinating an Oklahoma State offense that was among the nation’s best -- the Cowboys finished in the top five in total offense in both 2011 and 2012. Prior to coming to Oklahoma State, Monken spent two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and he also coached at Notre Dame and LSU, among other places. He has no head coaching experience at any level.
