Tee Martin turns down Tennessee, according to report

The former Vols quarterback will reportedly stay at USC.

Former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Tee Martin has declined a spot on his college team's coaching staff, according to Tennessee Sports Radio.

Martin is currently the receivers coach at USC. He was in Tennessee on Monday to interview with new Volunteers coach Butch Jones, who was introduced as Tennessee’s new coach on Friday.

Martin led the Vols to its first national championship in 1998. Tennessee went 13-0 and beat Florida State in the Fiesta Bowl. In that season, Martin completed 57 percent of his passes for 2,442 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also threw eight interceptions and had seven rushing touchdowns.

Martin, 34, has been with USC since February. He’s also held coaching positions at New Mexico and Kentucky and is known as an excellent recruiter, especially in SEC country.

The former QB was a fifth round pick in the 2000 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Martin played in just three games in his NFL career. One came with the Steelers in 2001 and two came with the Oakland Raiders in 2003. He never threw a TD in his time in the NFL.
