Jim Chaney, Tennessee OC, takes same position at Arkansas

Tennessee offensive coordinator Jim Chaney has been hired as the new offensive coordinator at Arkansas, leaving Knoxville after four seasons.

Randy Sartin-US PRESSWIRE

Tennessee Volunteers offensive coordinator Jim Chaney has been hired to the same position with the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Hogs announced on Wednesday night. Chaney, 50, was named the interim head coach at Tennessee following Derek Dooley's dismissal, but did not fit into the long-term plans in Knoxville after the hire of another offensive-minded coach in Butch Jones.

Chaney was hired as the Vols’ offensive coordinator back in 2009 by Lane Kiffin, and was retained by Derek Dooley a year later following Kiffin’s departure to USC. For all of Tennessee’s struggles over the past few years, the team’s offense has not been one of their problems. The Vols averaged over 475 yards and 36 points per game this past season, both of which put them in the top 25 nationally.

Prior to being hired by the Volunteers, Chaney had spent time coaching with the St. Louis Rams, Purdue, Wyoming, and Cal State Fullerton.
