Update: Counter-report from the Oregon State side.

The Wisconsin Badgers have suddenly attracted a surprising candidate for their job. Jeremy Fowler of CBS Sports reports that Wisconsin has reached out to Oregon State head coach Mike Riley.

The long-time Beavers coach is set to interview with Wisconsin this week, according to two sources with direct knowledge of the situation.

Riley is in his second stint with the Beavers, going 8-14 his first time around before leaving for the NFL to coach the San Diego Chargers. Riley’s second stint started at Oregon State around 2003, and he has gone 81-66 during his time there. Oregon State has gone to seven bowl games, finished in second place twice and third place four times in the Pac-12. The Beavers are coming off a 9-3 turnaround year, finishing third in the conference in overall record and are headed to the 2012 Alamo Bowl.
Riley has received interest for major jobs before. Most notably, USC courted him after the departure of Pete Carroll, but he eventually returned to the Beavers. Riley agreed to a three-year contract extension after those negotiations that guaranteed the Beaver head coach would be sticking on the sidelines in Corvallis through 2019.
