The DIII national championship will be decided Friday in a game between St. Thomas and Mount Union.

Both teams enter the game at 14-0 and coming off double-digit wins in the semifinals. St. Thomas knocked off Wisconsin-Oshkosh 28-14 in the semifinals while Mount Union advanced with a 48-35 win against Mary Hardin-Baylor. Playing in the national championship game is nothing new for Mount Union as this will be their eighth straight trip to the Stagg Bowl. Mount Union lost to Wisconsin-Whitewater in each of the last three Stagg Bowls.
While Mount Union is a veteran to national championship games, St. Thomas will be making its first Stagg Bowl appearance. The Tommies will face a tough test against a Mount Union team which ranks first among DIII teams in points per game scored and points per game allowed. The Purple Raiders scored 54.6 points per game while allowing just 8.9 points per game.
Friday’s game is scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPNU.
