2012 New Orleans Bowl results: Louisiana-Lafayette defeats East Carolina, 43-34

For the second consecutive season, the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns are New Orleans Bowl champions, as Louisiana-Lafayette defeated East Carolina, 43-34.

Louisiana-Lafayette quarterback Terrance Broadway passed for 316 yards and a touchdown while rushing for over 100 yards and a touchdown as the Ragin' Cajuns defeated the East Carolina Pirates in the 2012 New Orleans Bowl, 43-34.

The Ragin' Cajuns jumped out to a quick 28-7 lead midway through the second quarter, after Alonzo Harris rushed for a 68-yard touchdown, giving Louisiana-Lafayette a commanding three-score lead early in the game.

East Carolina, however, battled back, and tied the game up at 31-31 in the third quarter, after Reggie Bullock rushed for a 13-yard score.

Broadway and the Ragin' Cajuns regained the lead minutes later, when Broadway completed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Javone Lawson.

The Pirates cut UL-Lafayette’s lead down to 37-34 after kicking a 26-yard field goal, but were unable to inch any closer than that, as the Ragin’ Cajuns added a pair of field goals to win, 43-34.

East Carolina and Louisiana-Lafayette combined to score 45 points in the second quarter, tying an NCAA bowl game record for the most combined points scored in a quarter.

2012 marks the second consecutive year that Louisiana-Lafayette has won the New Orleans Bowl. In 2011, the Ragin’ Cajuns defeated San Diego State, 32-30.
