Arizona State Sun Devils running back Marion Grice left the team to be with his family following the death of his brother, according to a school spokesman (via AZCentral.com's Doug Haller).

Grice’s brother was shot and killed on Friday during a robbery attempt in which two men were after a pair of Air Jordans that he recently purchased, per Click2Houston.com. One of Grice’s teammates confirmed that the victim in the situation was indeed Grice’s brother, while others offered condolences to the junior out of Houston, Texas.

Grice is the Sun Devils’ second-leading rusher, gaining 520 yards on just 89 carries, good for an average of 5.8 yards per rushing attempt. He also leads the team in rushing touchdowns with nine. Grice is a threat in the passing game as well, catching 39 balls for 406 yards and eight touchdowns.

It’s unclear whether or not Grice will return to the team for the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl against Navy on Dec. 29.
