Geno Smith sacked in end zone: Defense happening in Pinstripe Bowl!

Defense! In the Pinstripe Bowl! Syracuse and West Virginia defenses!

Hey, remember that Russell Athletic Bowl play from Friday, during which Rutgers was awarded a touchdown despite only scoring a safety? Here we nearly had the opposite!

Geno Smith was brought down in the winter wonderland of an end zone by Syracuse after a Mountaineers goal-line stand, meaning we had back-to-back defensive plays in the Pinstripe Bowl. Nobody saw that coming. The score was briefly an amazing 5-0, which is apparently very baseball. But then Prince-Tyson Gulley ran in a long score, and now it's 12-0, which is not very baseball, and more just NFL.

Star quarterbacks Smith and Ryan Nassib are a combined nine of 21 for 62 yards, due in part to snowy conditions.

Smith, who really was asked to drop back very far for being so close to the end zone, dropped the ball while being swarmed, but no Orange players were aware the pill was loose. A West Virginia lineman was able to fall on it, saving the ‘Eers five points.
