Steve Spurrier will reportedly receive 2-year extension

According to reports, Steve Spurrier will be staying a few more years in South Carolina.

Jeremy Brevard-US PRESSWIRE

Steve Spurrier will receive a two-year contract extension to remain the head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks, according to Josh Kendal of The (Columbia, S.C.) State.

Spurrier has been at South Carolina since the beginning of the 2005 season and has compiled a 65-37 record since that time. The man who made his name coaching the Florida Gators has never had a losing campaign with the Gamecocks, making a bowl appearance every season except in 2007.

This year, South Carolina is headed to the Outback Bowl to play against the Michigan Wolverines of the Big Ten.

Spurrier has been wildly successful everywhere he has gone except for the NFL's Washington Redskins. In college, Spurrier led the Duke Blue Devils to respectability in the late 1980s before going to his alma mater in Florida.

There, Spurrier had the Gators contending almost every year for a national title. He won his only national championship in 1996, beating the Florida State Seminoles in the Sugar Bowl.
