Robert Woods leaving for NFL Draft, defends quote about USC coaches

After three strong seasons with the Trojans, Woods will turn professional in 2013.

Kirby Lee-US PRESSWIRE

Robert Woods, one of college football’s most accomplished wide receivers, announced on Monday evening that he will be taking his talents to the NFL next season. According to a tweet from Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times, Woods said he would forgo his senior season and enter the draft following the Trojans loss to Georgia Tech in Sun Bowl.

And then there was this (Moura later posted the audio of the quote) -- Woods finished the Sun Bowl with three catches for 33 yards:

However, Woods denied the interpretation of the quote:

After breaking out with USC as a sophomore in 2011, Woods had another fine campaign with Matt Barkley in 2012. He hauled in 73 passes for 813 yards and 11 touchdowns, which were both second-best on the team behind only Marqise Lee. Woods will finish his tenure at USC with nearly 250 receptions and 2,900 yards.

The news of Woods turning pro is not a big surprise. The 6’1, 190 lb. receiver figures to be drafted in the earlier rounds, and his explosive play-making ability will make him an attractive prospect to many teams around the league.
