Houston Nutt interviewing for South Florida job, according to report

The former Rebels coach might get his first coaching gig since being fired in 2011.

Former Ole Miss and Arkansas coach Houston Nutt will interview for the University of South Florida head coach job, according to Alex Marvez of FOX Sports. Follow along with USF’s coaching search here at Voodoo Five.

The Bulls are looking for a new coach after firing Skip Holtz on Sunday. Holtz was the coach at USF for three seasons. Despite receiving a five-year contract extension this summer, Holtz was just 16-21 as coach of the Bulls. The team lost 16 of its last 20 games with him at the helm.

Nutt coached the Rebels from 2008 through 2011. He was fired toward the end of a 2-10 season. In his four seasons at Ole Miss, the Rebels were 24-26 overall and 10-22 in the SEC. In his final two years, Ole Miss was just 1-15 against SEC opponents.

Nutt had better success in his 10 seasons at Arkansas from 1998-2007. The Razorbacks were 75-48 in his time there, with a pair of bowl wins. Arkansas finished first in the SEC West Division three times with Nutt running the program.
