South Florida coaching search updates

South Florida fired Holtz this week after two straight losing seasons in his three-year run with the Bulls.

Taggart’s name has been mentioned with multiple openings. According to sources, Taggart interviewed with the Bulls and with Wisconsin this week, and previously interviewed with Arkansas.

Under the direction of Morris, the Tigers offense was one of the best in the country. Clemson finished in the top 10 in scoring and total yards, averaging 42.3 points a game and 518.3 yards a game, which was good for sixth and ninth in the country, respectively. The 42.3 points a game also set a school record for most points scored in a season.

Before moving to Clemson, Morris held the same position as Tulsa for one season, leading a high-powered Golden Hurricane offense to top 10 rankings in both scoring and total yards.

Western Kentucky’s Willie Taggart has become a red hot name for a number of head coaching openings. The Hilltoppers head coach interviewed with the University of Wisconsin Tuesday, according to sources. In addition, Taggart is in talks with South Florida for their opening, and was interviewed by Arkansas before the Razorbacks hired Badgers head coach Bret Bielema. Sources have told SB Nation that if Taggart is offered the USF job, he’ll likely accept.

Taggart has a 16-20 overall record since taking over his alma mater in 2010, and has the Hilltoppers bowl eligible for the second straight season. WKU will play Central Michigan in the Little Caesars Bowl on December 26, the first FBS bowl in WKU history.

Former Ole Miss and Arkansas coach Houston Nutt will interview for the University of South Florida head coach job, according to Alex Marvez of FOX Sports. Follow along with USF’s coaching search here at Voodoo Five.

The Bulls are looking for a new coach after firing Skip Holtz on Sunday. Holtz was the coach at USF for three seasons. Despite receiving a five-year contract extension this summer, Holtz was just 16-21 as coach of the Bulls. The team lost 16 of its last 20 games with him at the helm.
