Charlie Strong chooses Louisville over Tennessee, according to report

Strong met with his players Wednesday afternoon, but didn’t address whether he’d be leaving for Tennessee. According to a new report, he’s staying at Louisville.

Update: Pete Thamel says is choosing Louisville. The only option left, based on reports, would be UNC’s Larry Fedora, who interviewed with the Vols Tuesday night.

The rumors surrounding Louisville Cardinals head coach Charlie Strong's future with the team continue to swirl after he didn't tell his players one way or the other what would be happening at a team meeting Wednesday, according to Go Vols Xtra. Strong reportedly has an offer from the Tennessee Volunteers on the table, reportedly in response to him telling the Vols he's staying at Louisville.

Players were told not to speak to the swarm of media members waiting outside the building about the meeting. Strong reportedly met with Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich about a new contract as well. Louisville center Mario Benavides took to Twitter after the meeting saying he's not concerned about Strong going anywhere.

All I'm gonna say is I'm not worried about my coach..we are a family.

If Strong turns down the Vols, their only current candidate appears to be UNC coach Larry Fedora, whom SB Nation reported they interviewed Tuesday night.

Strong spent eight seasons with the Florida Gators in multiple capacities, including defensive coordinator, before taking the head coaching position at Louisville. In three seasons with the Cardinals, Strong has amassed a 24-14 record, including a 10-2 record and a share of the Big East title during one season. The Cardinals will face Strong's former employer in the Sugar Bowl when they play the Gators on Jan. 2.
