All of the nation’s top five-ranked teams are still in the hunt as the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs get underway on Friday and Saturday.
FCS playoff schedule 2012: Quarterfinals kickoff over the weekend
The quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs take place on Friday and Saturday, as the top five teams in the nation all remain in contention for a national title.


On Friday night, the third-ranked Montana State Bobcats get the action started when they host the Sam Houston State Bearkats in a game that will be televised at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
Saturday’s triple-header begins at noon ET with the No. 5 Georgia Southern Eagles traveling to take on the No. 4 Old Dominion Monarchs in Norfolk, Va. The game can be seen on ESPN.
In the afternoon, the top-seeded North Dakota State Bison play host to the Wofford Terriers at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN3. The final ticket to the semifinals will be punched at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN3, when the Illinois State Redbirds take on the No. 2 Eastern Washington Eagles in Cheney, Wash.
The semifinals will be held next Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14 and 15, and the national title game will take place on Jan. 5 in Frisco, Texas.
