Butch Jones agrees to coach Tennessee Volunteers, according to reports

Butch Jones, the outgoing coach at Cincinnati, has agreed in principle to coach at Tennessee, according to several reports.

Butch Jones will in fact take the job coaching Tennessee football he'd reportedly been offered Thursday, the school has officially announced. Jones is scheduled to meet with his Cincinnati Bearcats team early Friday. Assuming this is all accurate, Tennessee's strange 18-day coaching search will come to an end.

Jones will be introduced at a 2:30 p.m. ET press conference.

Tennessee has dealt with four high-profile rejections, including ones by Louisville’s Charlie Strong, Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy, North Carolina’s Larry Fedora and America’s Jon Gruden.

Jones has led Cincinnati to a 23-14 record over his tenure, and a 19-6 record over the past two seasons. In 2011 and 2012, he lead the Bearcats to a tie for first in the Big East. Cincinnati won the Liberty Bowl last season, and is scheduled to face Duke in the Belk Bowl on December 27.

Prior to Cincinnati, Jones coached at Central Michigan. Tennessee fired head coach Derek Dooley in late November.
