Texas Tech OC Neal Brown will reportedly accept same position at Kentucky

The Red Raiders’ offense put up some serious numbers in 2012, and now Kentucky is looking for Neal Brown to duplicate that for the Wildcats.

Neal Brown, offensive coordinator for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, will reportedly become the offensive coordinator for the Kentucky Wildcats, according to Pete Roussel. Texas Tech's 501.4 yards per game average ranked 12th in the nation in 2012, and the Red Raiders were in the top 15 in the country in points per game and total yards.

Kentucky did not fare nearly as well, ranking no higher than 114th in any of those categories. That led to head coach Joker Phillips being fired before the season was out, and Florida St. Seminoles defensive coordinator Mark Stoops being hired as the new Wildcats head coach.

Prior to his time at Texas Tech, Brown worked his way up to offensive coordinator with the Troy Trojans. Combined with his time in Texas, it gives him widespread recruiting ties that could be of major benefit to the Wildcats. Brown, 32, is among the younger high-profile Division I offensive coordinators. Stoops, 45, is putting together a coaching staff significantly younger than that of Phillips.

Brown's departure from Texas Tech was likely influenced by Tommy Tuberville's decision to leave. Tuberville was announced as the new head coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats earlier in December.
