When the Oklahoma State Cowboys take on the No. 12 Texas Longhorns on Saturday, they could be without their starting quarterback, Wes Lunt. The true freshman injured his leg six plays into their Sept. 15 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette and had been wearing a cast. But despite all of that, head coach Mike Gundy isn't ready to count his starter out of this weekend's Big 12 matchup.
Wes Lunt injury: Oklahoma State QB could play against Texas
When Oklahoma State takes the field against Texas on Saturday, injured starting quarterback Wes Lunt could be available to play.

“Everybody wants to know something but there’s just not really much to say,” Gundy said. “They cut him out of his cast (Sunday) and he looked good. ... They like the way he looked, all the stuff that they think is important. I joked with them. I said, `Well, you need to get him out there Wednesday or Thursday,’ and they acted like that there’s a chance that he could be out there. Now, is he going to be full speed? I don’t know.”
Lunt has played well so far this season. He went 11-11 in Oklahoma State’s 84-0 drubbing of Savannah State in their season opener. He followed up that performance by setting a Big 12 record for a freshman when he passed for 436 yards in the Cowboys’ Week 2 loss to Arizona.
Oklahoma State releases its game week injury report on Friday, so it's unlikely that there will be any news on Lunt before that time. If he can't go, Gundy will go with backup signal caller J.W. Walsh, who filled in capably for Lunt against Lousiana-Lafayette when the redshirt freshman led the Cowboys in racking up a school-record, 742 yards.
