Florida State vs. USF 2012 results: Seminoles take home 30-17 win

It may not be as impressive as their win over Clemson, but Florida State will take a 30-17 win over South Florida

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The Florida State Seminoles didn't look great at times, but a hot run in the third quarter put the game away, as they beat the South Florida Bulls, 30-17.

Florida State keeps their undefeated record intact, though it probably didn't come in a manner that most Seminole fans would find very appealing. Quarterback E.J. Manuel was an efficient 19-of-26 for 241 yards and a touchdown, but failed to match his performance last week against Clemson. South Florida was able to keep the Florida State running game in check for most of the night. Chris Thompson led the 'Noles in rushing with 74 yards.

For South Florida, it was more of the same from quarterback B.J. Daniels. Daniels went 17-of-33 for 143 yards and an interception, but rushed for 72 yards and two touchdowns. It was Daniels' backup however, that was responsible for the biggest mistake of the game. Matt Floyd came in for Daniels right before the end of the third quarter, and on his only play was sacked and fumbled. Christian Jones returned the fumble for a touchdown to make it 30-10 and put a stake in the heart of USF's upset bid.

Box Score Hero: FSU wide receiverRashad Greene had two receptions for 71 yards, and also rushed for the Seminoles' only rushing touchdown of the day.

Rankings Ramifications: Barring a loss by a team ahead of them, Florida State should remain at No. 4 in the polls.

But Did They Cover? The Seminoles were 15.5 point favorites, so they did not cover the spread.

Next Week’s Schedule:

Florida State: 10/6 at NC State

South Florida: 10/6 at Temple
