Marquess Wilson leaving Washington State for 2013 NFL Draft

Washington State’s Marquess Wilson will forego his senior season to enter the 2013 NFL Draft after a controversial end to his career with the Cougars.

Washington State wide receiver Marquess Wilson will enter the 2013 NFL Draft, according to Scott Wright of NFL Draft Countdown. Wilson left the Cougars with three games left in their season after clashing with the coaching staff put in place under new head coach Mike Leach. He accused Leach of using abusive motivation techniques, but probes by Washington State and the PAC 12 found no wrong-doing.

Despite the controversial end to his college career, he should draw a fair amount of interest during April’s draft. SB Nation’s Dan Kadar ranks Wilson as the 15th-best wide receiver prospect among entrants. He was incredibly productive at Washington State, setting the school’s career and single-season receiving records. Wilson had 52 receptions for 813 yards and five touchdowns last year despite playing a shortened season.

Wilson’s 6-4 frame should entice general managers, but at just 185 pounds, he could have used the extra two years in the college ranks afforded to him by a transfer to add weight and strength. As things currently stand, he appears to be a mid to late-round draft pick.
