Texas Longhorns wide receiver Mike Davis changed his mind on Thursday, withdrawing his name from the NFL draft just hours after informing the media that he would be foregoing the remaining eligibility.

Reported by ESPN’s Joe Schad, the decision to change his mind and return to school was based on several factors. Davis wanted to maximize his college career while attempting to win the Fred Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation’s top receiver. Davis also talked about his desire to support his teammates and not let them down.

Finishing his 2012 season with 939 total yards and seven touchdowns, Davis was projected as a third-round pick. Wescott Eberts of Burnt Orange Nation believes there’s plenty the junior receiver can improve on in his final year:

The 2012 draft class is already viewed by some as lacking top-end talent, and now with Davis returning to school, the top receivers will be at even more of a premium.
