After rumors started circulating this past week about interest from the San Diego Chargers, UCLA and head coach Jim Mora agreed to a contract extension through 2017 to keep the coach in Westwood. Mora was a career NFL coach before taking the UCLA job prior to the 2012 season, so it makes sense that the Chargers would inquire about his services. Mora previously served as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks, and spent seven season as an assistant with the Chargers from 1985-1991.

Mora went 9-5 in his first season in charge of the Bruins, winning the Pac-12 South and making an appearance in the Holiday Bowl. Many questioned the hire initially, but the nine wins Mora delivered in 2012 were the most by a UCLA team since 2005’s 10 victories under Karl Dorrell. Besides the raise, UCLA administration is working to upgrade the athletics facilities, including the construction of an on-campus football practice facility.
