Texas Tech has hired former Texas A&M linebackers coach Matt Wallerstedt as its new defensive coordinator, according to multiple reports, one from Bruce Feldman and another from Rivals.
Matt Wallerstedt hired as Texas Tech defensive coordinator, per reports
Kliff Kingsbury continues to round out the Raiders’ coaching staff.

Wallerstedt has prior experience as a defensive coordinator. He occupied that position for the University of Wyoming between 2000 and 2002 before becoming the defensive coordinator at North Alabama. He then moved on to become the associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Air Force.
Wallerstedt spent just one season as the Texas A&M linebackers coach before getting snatched up by the Raiders. In that time, he coached Sean Porter, who is a solid mid-round prospect in the 2013 NFL Draft.
The Raiders have been searching for a defensive coordinator for the past few weeks. The team recently hired Kliff Kingsbury to be its new head coach, and he has been working on rounding out the Raiders’ coaching staff ever since. Feldman considers Wallerstedt a good hire for the Raiders.
