Washington is the latest program to incorporate matte helmets, if the photo tweeted out by a Huskies recruit is accurate. These apparently are the home uniforms that Washington will be sporting next season:
Matte black Washington football helmets potentially revealed
It appears the Huskies will be going with matte black helmets for the 2013 season. A number of programs have adopted the matte look in recent years.

We’ve seen the future, and it apparently includes a lot of matte helmets. Even Michigan got in on this action. Virginia Tech as well. These are tough blows for supporters of shiny things everywhere.
The Huskies head into the 2013 season trying to improve on a 7-6 campaign that featured helmets that may have been just a little too 7-6ish for the school’s taste. The Huskies actually have finished 7-6 in each of the last three seasons, so clearly some sort of aesthetic shakeup was necessary in order to get the program over that hump in the future. That’s just college football science right there.
