USA TODAY SportsLogan Thomas has reportedly elected to return to Virginia Tech for his senior season on Tuesday. Had Thomas left, the competition to replace the two-year starter would have featured a group of largely unheralded prospects, most of whom haven’t taken a snap for the Hokies in a live game.
The Hokies have a four-star quarterback prospect in their 2013 recruiting class in Bucky Hodges, another Virginia native. Had Thomas left early for the NFL, Hodges would definitely have the talent to get in the race to replace him. However, he’ll have to wait another year to get a shot.

USA TODAY SportsAccording to SB Nation’s Dan Kadar, Thomas would be the 12th-best quarterback prospect in the draft were he to announce his intention to go pro. That would make it unlikely for Thomas to be selected on the first day of the draft.
Thomas finished the 2012 season with 2,976 yards passing, with 18 touchdowns and 16 interceptions; he also ran for 527 yards and nine scores. The year ultimately went down as disappointment for Thomas, who was considered a potential first-team All-ACC player in the preseason by some media members.
